ADULT BP CARE

Hypertension Treatment in Tiruppur

Hypertension is a long-term condition in which blood pressure remains higher than normal, increasing strain on the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and other organs.

High BP usually causes no symptoms. A clinic reading of 140/90 or more on more than one visit, or home readings of 135/85 or more, means high BP.

At our BP clinic, Dr. Tushyanth V looks at your readings, other illnesses and current medicines, including painkillers and some cold medicines that can raise BP.

Care includes:

BP check and home BP review
ECG, kidney and urine tests
Medicines and dose adjustment
Tests for hidden causes
Salt and diet advice
24-hour BP monitoring

ABOUT THE PHYSICIAN

High BP Care with Dr. Tushyanth V

MBBS, MD(General Medicine)
TNMC Reg. No.141260

Dr. Tushyanth V treats high BP in adults, including BP that starts before 40, BP with diabetes or kidney disease, and BP that stays high on medicines.

He compares your clinic and home readings, and looks for hidden causes such as excess aldosterone before adding more tablets.

If your clinic and home readings don't agree, he may suggest a 24-hour BP test before starting or changing tablets, so treatment is based on your real BP.

HIGH BP FAQS

High BP Questions Answered

Do I need an appointment?

Booking is better. Avoid tea, coffee and smoking for 30 minutes before your visit, since they raise the reading.

What should I bring to my first visit?

All your BP tablets or their strips, your home readings for the last week, and recent reports. If you have a home BP machine, bring it so we can check it against ours.

Which home BP machine should I buy, and how do I use it?

An automatic upper-arm machine, not a wrist one. Sit for five minutes with your back supported and your arm at heart level. Take two readings in the morning and two at night for a week before your visit.

Can I stop my BP tablets once my BP is normal?

Usually no. Normal readings on tablets mean the tablets are working. Some people who lose weight and cut salt can reduce the dose, but only with a doctor checking the BP.

Can the cause of high BP be found?

In most adults there is no single cause. A common hidden cause is excess aldosterone, which a simple blood test (aldosterone-renin ratio) can pick up, even when potassium is normal. We also look for other causes if you are under 40, or your BP is very high or hard to control.

When do I need a 24-hour BP test?

When your clinic and home readings don't agree, when BP is borderline and we need to decide on tablets, when BP stays high despite medicines, or when you feel dizzy on tablets. You wear the cuff for 24 hours, including while you sleep, and return the device the next day. Keep your arm still when the cuff inflates, and don't bathe while wearing it.

How often do I need a follow-up?

Every 2 to 4 weeks until your BP is controlled, then every 3 to 6 months.
